Cali's Trip to the UK

There has never been a stranger in Cali's world, only friends she hasn't met yet. That's the golden retriever way, and Cali does it better than most. Every walk is the best part of her day. Every person is a potential belly-rub dispenser. Every object left within reach of her mouth is fair game, whether or not it should be. She is affectionate, gentle, a little bit chaotic, and completely, unapologetically herself.

So when her family decided to move from the US to the UK, there was only one condition: Cali was coming too.

What followed were months of paperwork, planning, and the particular kind of worry that comes from wanting to get every single detail right for someone who can't ask questions or read a checklist. Import requirements. Flight logistics. All of it stacked up, JFK to LHR, one step at a time.

Then came arrivals day.

Cali came through the doors wagging her tail, utterly unbothered by the ocean she'd just crossed, seemingly puzzled as to why everyone around her was suddenly so emotional. To her, it was simple. She was home. The humans, on the other hand, needed a minute.

That reunion is one the family says they'll never forget, and they're quick to credit Starwood for making a complicated process feel manageable, even smooth, at a moment when nothing about moving countries feels smooth.

Now a fully-fledged British resident, Cali has wasted no time settling into her new life, and she has plans. Big ones. Her UK bucket list currently includes:

• Testing exactly how many muddy paws fit on a freshly mopped floor
• Personally inspecting every pub garden in Surrey, purely for quality control
• Chasing squirrels she has zero realistic chance of catching, and no intention of stopping
• Convincing every single person she meets that she is, in fact, starving, ten minutes after her last meal
• Becoming a full-blown celebrity in Richmond Park while accepting absolutely no responsibility for the chaos in her wake

One flight, one family, one very good girl. Welcome home, Cali.
