What Travel Kennel Do I Need?

Now that you have measured your pet, it's time to purchase the travel kennel!

louis-philippe-poitras-sJgucUmcaKE-unsplashWe know how uncomfortable it can be for humans when you're flying on a plane, so imagine how your pet would feel if they were in a cramped space.

It's extremely important that your pet's travel kennel is large enough so that they are safe and comfortable.  They must be able to stand up, sit down, lie down and spin around comfortably.

If the airline believes the travel kennel is too small for your pet at check in, then they may be refused for travel.

Please discuss the correct size and type of kennel to purchase directly with your Pet Travel Coordinator.

The popular brand of reinforced & collapsable kennels called Impact (example here) are not approved by many airlines per IATA rules. We strongly urge you to avoid this brand of kennels. Speak with your Pet Travel Coordinator for more details.

If your pet is a Brachycephalic breed (aka "snub-nosed"), you will need to purchase a kennel that is one size larger than normal.

Examples of brachycephalic breeds include: Affenpinscher, Boston Terrier, Boxer, Brussels Griffon, Bulldog, Cane Corso, Chow Chow, Dogue de Bordeaux, English Toy Spaniel, Japanese Chin, Lhasa Apso, Mastiff, Pit Bull, Presa Canario, Pug, Pekingese or Persian cats.

If your dog does not have enough space in the largest plastic kennel, you will need to have a custom wooden kennel built for him or her.

You can purchase one through us since we work with excellent custom kennel builders.

IATA has clear specifications to follow for travel kennels of all sizes.  You can review the IATA live animal container requirements HERE
